The Service Collective
The Cadman Park Conservancy extends a heartfelt thank you to last Tuesday afternoon‘s The Service Collective Community Club volunteers! This is a very special group of students, meeting weekly, enriching their community in many ways. The Conservancy was delighted that this group spent some time working in Cadman. The Service Collective Community Club made a tremendous impact weeding and composting the areas around the flagpoles prominently in front of the Brooklyn War Memorial. NYC Parks Department Gardener 1, Jessica Kulig is helping to plan the planting of these areas when the volunteers return to plant in the next couple of weeks. There are already thousands of daffodil bulbs planted around the flagpoles by past St. Francis College volunteers. The planned cultivation of these sites will have a tremendous impact enhancing Cadman Plaza Park and the Brooklyn War Memorial. We’re looking forward to The Service Collective Community Club’s return to plant the areas they’ve prepared!

DSNY Compost Giveback was a huge success!
This past Sunday, along with 4 pallets stacked with of 40 pound bags of compost, the DSNY brought beautiful weather and enthusiasm to Cadman Plaza Park. After 48 hours of torrential rain, the early Sunday morning sunshine was appreciated by all. The DSNY Compost Giveback was a huge success! Special thanks to DSNY’s Andrew Hoyles, Senior Manager of Compost Outreach and Education, Sarah Woodruff from Big Reuse and Menika Harris, DSNY. We appreciate your engagement with our community, sharing information, signing people up for at home composting, while distributing 40 lb bags of compost.

Everyone is thrilled to be playing on the new and improved field. To ensure the turf’s endurance we ask that no pets, no strollers and no chairs are allowed the athletic field at anytime. We greatly appreciate your consideration.

Our beloved Gardener II/ Horticulturist Anil Chandrakumar has received a very well deserved promotion as Brooklyn’s Horticulturist Supervisor!! We are deeply grateful for the wonderful time we’ve had working with Anil. We appreciate everything he brought to the community and the park enriching both immensely. We’re very happy for Anil and relieved that we’ll still be working together although in a different capacity. Our efforts to nurture nature will keep Anil connected to our community for sure!
