Athletic Field
Sharing the Athletic Field – A Community Effort
The Athletic Field is a shared space meant for everyone to enjoy! To help balance the needs of different park users, the Brooklyn Parks and Recreation Department will be putting up new signs to define passive and active sports areas while soccer games are happening. These signs will be installed in the next couple of weeks.
We understand there have been concerns about children’s leagues and free play being disrupted when adult soccer leagues use the field. Last week, the Brooklyn Heights Association shared several community complaints about challenges in sharing the field. For example, on Saturday, two adult leagues were observed staking out territories, which unfortunately left no room for children and their families.
To address these concerns, the Conservancy met with the Park Supervisor, who oversees the park on weekends. He will be monitoring the field this weekend to ensure it remains a welcoming space for everyone.
Thank you for helping us keep our park enjoyable for all!
